Quick Answer
The best early area order in Mina the Hollower is to first handle the Ossex setup: enter the Hollower's Guild, rescue Rhene to the south, unlock Drillhardt, and buy the map. After that, Queensbury Crypt is the safest first major route for most players. From there, you can move toward Nox's Bayou, Septemburg / Kindlewood, Bone Beach or Sandfall routes, Coltrane Peak, and later cleanup areas depending on your upgrades and comfort.
Mina the Hollower is semi-open. This is a practical first-playthrough route, not the only valid path.
Important: Mina Is Not Fully Linear
Some routes open earlier than they feel comfortable. If an area drains every Vial, asks for tools you do not have, or blocks safe boss attempts, leave and return later.
Finish the Ossex Setup First
Reach Ossex, enter the Hollower's Guild, rescue Rhene in the Southern Outskirts, return to the Guild, reveal Drillhardt, and buy the Isle Map before serious backtracking.
Recommended First-Playthrough Area Order
Opening route → Ossex → Guild setup → Southern Outskirts / Rhene rescue → Drillhardt / map → Queensbury Crypt → Nox's Bayou → Septemburg / Kindlewood → Bone Beach / Sandfall → Coltrane Peak → later routes → secret bosses and cleanup.
Queensbury Crypt is the safest first major area. Nox's Bayou is a strong next direction once you can handle water and arena pressure. Septemburg / Kindlewood, Bone Beach / Sandfall, and Coltrane Peak are smoother after your weapon, Trinkets, healing, and map support are stable.
Readiness and Backtracking
You are probably too early if normal enemies take too long, you spend all healing before the midpoint, or terrain damage prevents clean boss attempts. Before a new area, spend useful Bones, refill healing, choose Trinkets for the route threat, and bring a Sidearm that solves ranged or hazard-heavy rooms. Backtrack when map support, movement, upgrades, or fast travel make old routes efficient.
